        | Notes |
The E-Type was released to the public at the Geneva
Motor show in March 1961. It was the successor to the XK range of cars which had been
available from 1946-1960/61. It caused as much, or even more sensation than the XK120 had
done back in 1946,  Mechanically it was not dis-similar to its immediate predecessor
        - the XK150 (S model), but its body and style of construction owed much in look and
technology to the racing Jaguars of the 50's - especially the D type. The
body utilised a monococque construction. At the rear the E-Type sported an independent
rear suspension, built as a separate unit in a subframe. This assembly would go on to be
used in all subsequent Jaguars with very little change into the 1990's. The car was
available in two body styles, a 2 seater roadster, and a 2 seater Fixed Head Coupe.    |
